Come and support us for our upcoming event!!!  In society, many seniors was like them. They were all lonely seniors. What they want is their family to be there for them. But their family just dont give a shit out of them.

Hi everyone! To let everyone know first,

I am one of the Student Organising Committee members from the Fund-Raising Department for the upcoming Lions Befrienders - Befriending Walk 2010. Lions Befrienders is co-organising a fundraising cum public awareness project - Befriending Walk 2010 with Republic Polytechnic on 25 September 2010 (Sat) at Admiralty Park.

Yes, I had been promoting this event, everytime and everywhere I go. I just hope that all of you will support this nation wide event :)

Befriending Walk 2010 aims to create awareness of lonely seniors in the community, encourage family bonding with the senior folks and provide a meaningful platform for the family to participate.  We will also have a record breaking event ?Highest number of people potting plants at the same location to create greater bonding with the community.  We would like to invite you and your community members or friends to take part in this meaningful project so as to cultivate their love and care for their parents and/or grandparents, and do their part for the lonely seniors.

We have this walk call : Walk Beside Me ? All of you can bring their parents and/or grandparents to the walk and bond with them.  Every ticket is at $10.  Fee is waived for fundraisers.

We also have Pledge card collection ?  They can also help to raise funds through pledge cards.  The donation enable Lions Befrienders to further expand its outreach programme to serve more lonely seniors through the Neighbourhood Links/Seniors Activity Centre. There will be a cheque presentation for groups who raise substantial amount.

For student who are interested in taking pledge card, please go to your respective schools/ Centre to collect it . :)

This is open not only to Republic Poly. It is open to all! If you are interested please feel free to contact me.

Is okay that if you dont want to buy tickets from us or collect the pledge card from us. You can volunteering yourself for this event too! 200 Volunteers Needed!!!

1,500 to 2,000 people are expected to take part in the walk. Your support will help promote the growth, development and expansion of the outreach programs for lonely seniors which are important to an aging society.

About Lions Befrienders

Lions Befrienders is a charitable organization set up in 1995 to aid in the social, psycho-emotional and physical well-being of the lonely seniors, and promotes aging in place.  Since our inception, we have helped more than 12,000 lonely seniors through our befriending and outreach programmes. 

Our three Seniors Activity Centres located at Ang Mo Kio, Bendemeer and Mei Ling provide an array of outreach programmes that help stimulate the mental, physical and social well being of our seniors.  Activities such as mini gym, morning exercise, bocci, recreational outings, etc aim to encourage seniors to stay integrated in the mainstream society and lead a more active and meaningful lives. 

We will be setting up more Seniors Activity Centres to cater to the needs of the increasing number of seniors.  In conjunction with this project, we hope to raise $150,000 in which the donation will fund initiate set up cost and activities for one new Senior Activity Centre at Ghim Moh Road, and outreach programme for lonely seniors at three Lions Befrienders Senior Activity Centres at Ang Mo Kio, Bendemeer and Mei Ling Street.
